We Did It, Ladies! "Wonder Woman" Isn't Horrible.
Finally, Wonder Woman is out in theaters. Women across the country have been anxiously awaiting the release of this film because the fate of our cinematic futures hinged upon its success. Would it bomb like the last female superhero movie, Electra, did twelve years ago? Would it be excruciating to watch like the last DC superhero movie, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice? We already know male superheroes can take blows from critics and audiences alike and still come back to the silver screen, but, if Wonder Woman tanked, we wouldn't see a similar film for at least a decade.
Now we can all let out our girdles and breathe a sigh of relief. I saw Wonder Woman yesterday, and it was not bad! I didn't want to run from the theater screaming. I was—dare I say?—entertained.
You don't have to trust me on this. In fact, I wouldn't trust me on this because I was highly influenced by hearing my name come out of Chris Pine's mouth over and over again. Instead, check out the (currently) 94% Rotten Tomatoes critics' score. That's a freshness rating you can nod your tiara'd head at with pride.
Truly, this is a victory not only for director, Patty Jenkins, or Wonder Woman herself, Gal Gadot. This is a victory for all women. We are now closer than ever to never having to wear pantyhose again.
