Care for some Sherbe(r)t?

This past Saturday, some friends and I attended New York City's "Scooper Bowl", an all-you-can-eat ice cream festival. You can check the event out in Boston this weekend.

We had a great time trying out the different flavors, particularly Vice Cream's Afternoon Delight and and Ben and Jerry's new One Love flavor.

In between sampling flavors, we discussed the proper pronunciation of a certain fruity frozen dessert.

Homer Simpson says his kids don't eat sorbet.

So, should we say "sherbet" or "sherbert"? Purists will insist that "sherbet" is
